Vinson becomes an honorary lab member as a collaboration with the Golden lab.. Welcome!
Elizabeth is named a 2017 Pew Biomedical Scholar!
Jan arrives from the Gene Center of the Ludwig Maximillian University in Munich to do a Masters Thesis in our lab. Willkommen!
Elizabeth presents our work at the first International cryo-EM symposium in Sweden: Exploring the Complexity of Life by Cryo-EM, with the occasion of inaugurating their new facilities
Elizabeth was honored to serve as co-guest editor for Klaus Schulten’s Memorial issue, published in The Journal of Physical Chemistry B.
Our lab joins the Section of Molecular Biology in the Division of Biological Sciences
Our new paper with the lab of Zan Schulten detailing the challenges of integrating stochastic dynamics and cryo-electron tomography data into whole-cell simulations has been published as part of the Klaus Schulten Memorial issue.
In collaboration with the Poglianos and Agard labs, we unveiled how very large viruses affect the cellular machinery of bacteria during infection. The most exciting finding: segregation of the (viral) genetic material inside a shell forming a nucleus-like compartment that separates transcription and translation! We used cryo-FIB milling and cryo-electron tomography to reveal the molecular details of this phenomenon. Read our paper and watch a movie.
My dearest advisor, mentor, and friend Klaus Schulten passed away today. Words cannot express the sadness. We will miss his pioneering spirit, brilliance, creativity, humor, and warmth. His legacy will continue to advance and inspire our scientific lives!
